Newcastle City Council · NE6 · 5.3 miles north of our Washington base
Older properties around Walker tend to have block paving or poured concrete drives laid at some point in the last few decades, often with joints that have never been re-sanded and a build-up of algae that's had years to establish. Newer estates lean toward resin-bound or tighter-jointed block paving that shows dirt and staining differently but responds well to the same core treatment.
We treat the cause as well as the surface: a biocide application that kills the algae and moss at the root, a proper rinse or rotary clean to lift what's already growing, then a re-sand and seal so the joints and surface are harder to recolonise next time. It's the difference between a driveway that looks clean for a fortnight and one that stays that way.
Walker and the Surrounding Neighbourhoods
Walker sits close to Newcastle upon Tyne, and we cover driveway cleaning across both the town and its surrounding neighbourhoods as one continuous service area rather than treating them separately for scheduling or pricing.
Tarmac Restoration and Oil Stain Treatment
Tarmac restoration pricing depends heavily on the condition of the surface - a clean and reseal on a sound drive is a fairly standard job, while cracking and edge repair add time and materials. Oil stain treatment is usually priced per affected area rather than the whole driveway, since it's a targeted treatment rather than a full-surface job.
Ingrained, older oil staining sometimes needs a repeat visit to fully lift - we'll be upfront if that's likely rather than promising a result we can't guarantee in one pass.
| Tarmac clean and seal | typically £4-£7/m², area dependent |
|---|---|
| Crack and edge repair | from around £80, extent dependent |
| Oil stain treatment (per patch) | typically £30-£70 per patch |
| Whole-drive oil treatment plus clean | priced on site after assessment |

Tarmac Restoration Process
- 1
Assess wear and damage
We check for cracking, potholing, fading and edge breakdown to decide what the surface actually needs.
- 2
Weed and moss treatment
Biocide treatment clears growth from cracks and edges, which left untreated will keep widening them.
- 3
Clean the surface
A thorough wash removes ground-in dirt, oil residue and algae film from the tarmac.
- 4
Crack and edge repair
Minor cracking and broken edges are treated or filled as needed before any restoration product is applied.
- 5
Seal and rejuvenate
A tarmac sealant restores the deep black finish and adds a protective layer against future wear.
What We Do - and What We Deliberately Avoid
We do treat weeds and moss with biocide before cleaning rather than just rinsing them off the surface, because a rinse alone leaves the roots intact and everything's back within weeks. We do match pressure and method to the actual surface, re-sand block paving joints properly rather than leaving them half full, and let concrete and resin dry fully before any sealant goes anywhere near them.
We don't run maximum pressure on every surface regardless of condition - imprinted concrete and resin-bound drives can be etched or pitted by careless use of a turbo nozzle, and it's not something that can be undone afterwards. We also don't seal a surface that's still damp or hasn't been given time to cure after cleaning, because it traps moisture underneath and the sealant fails early.
Wet-Look Sealants
- A wet-look sealant gives a richer, glossier finish that deepens colour noticeably and makes a driveway look freshly laid, which suits block paving and imprinted concrete especially well. It offers the same protective benefit as a matt sealant but with a more dramatic visual lift, and it's a popular choice ahead of selling a property.
Driveway Cleaning & Sealing in Walker — common questions
Block paving, poured and imprinted concrete, resin and tarmac all need slightly different treatment, and getting that wrong is how driveways get damaged rather than improved. We match the method to the material every time, on every job across Walker.
Based in Washington and covering a 45-mile radius across the North East, we bring proper training - biocide, asbestos awareness and spill management - to every driveway job in Walker, whatever the surface or condition.
