"Just turn the pressure up and it'll all come off" is the single most common misconception about pressure washing, and it's the reason so many driveways end up with washed-out jointing sand and patchy, blotchy tarmac.

When did you last see the actual colour of your driveway? For a lot of homes in Shildon it's been a while - block paving, tarmac and concrete all darken gradually under a film of algae and grime until the original shade is barely a memory.

A standard driveway pressure wash typically starts from around £70-£120 depending on size and how much moss and algae has built up - considerably less than the cost of relaying or resurfacing a driveway that's been left to deteriorate.

A wider catchment across County Durham

Beyond the immediate area, we also cover Spennymoor, Ferryhill, Willington and Crook, all within easy reach as part of our normal round from Washington.

Wherever you are in that catchment, the same standards apply - surface-appropriate pressure, proper pre-treatment where needed, and re-sanding or sealing on request.

Working across several surfaces in one visit

  1. 1

    Walk the whole site

Driveway, patio, path, yard and any walls are assessed together so pressure and method are planned per area.

  2. 2

    Start with the hardest surface

We usually begin with block paving or concrete, which takes firmer pressure, before moving to gentler surfaces.

  3. 3

Move to tarmac and softer areas

Pressure is dropped for tarmac paths or drives, and walls get a soft-wash pass rather than a direct jet.

  4. 4

    Detail pass

Edges, steps, gate posts and wall bases are finished by hand lance once the main areas are done.

  5. 5

    Final check and tidy

Run-off is checked, equipment cleared, and the whole site reviewed before we finish up.

How we pressure wash a driveway or patio

We start with a walk-round to check the surface type, condition of joints or pointing, and any oil or organic staining that needs pre-treatment before washing begins.

Loose debris and heavy moss growth are cleared first, then the main clean is done with a rotary surface cleaner on open areas and a hand lance for edges, steps and against walls.

Once the surface is clean we deal with any re-sanding of block paving joints and apply a sealer if that's been agreed, leaving everything to dry before we hand back.

Composite decking and porcelain paving

  • Modern composite decking and porcelain paving are tougher than natural materials in some ways but can still be damaged by concentrated high pressure at close range, and composite in particular can be scored if the nozzle is held too close. We keep the lance moving and at a sensible distance to get a clean result without surface damage.

Pressure Washing in Shildon — common questions

We're fully insured, biocide trained and happy to talk through what a particular surface needs before quoting, rather than giving a price blind.

Block paving, concrete, tarmac, natural stone and walls all need different handling, and treating them the same is how surfaces get damaged rather than cleaned. We set pressure and method by material every time.
