Render, pebbledash and K-Rend also suit soft washing well, since the gentle rinse avoids damaging the surface texture or driving water behind the render layer.
Softer, older brickwork and lime mortar pointing, common on Victorian and older properties, benefit from soft washing's lower mechanical stress compared with pressure washing, which can erode softer mortar joints over repeated use. Conservatory roofs and other delicate glazed or coated surfaces also generally do better with a soft wash approach than mechanical pressure.
Why soft washing has taken over from pressure washing on these surfaces
The shift happened largely because pressure washing on roofs and render was causing enough visible damage, cracked tiles, stripped coatings, water ingress issues, that reputable contractors and even tile manufacturers began actively steering away from it in their own guidance. It also delivers longer-lasting results, since the biocide's residual effect keeps working after the visit is over, meaning surfaces typically stay cleaner for longer between treatments compared with a pressure wash that removes growth but does nothing to stop it returning quickly.

Expect the treated surface to look immediately better in terms of colour and general dirt removal, but dead moss and lichen can take a few weeks to fully die back, lighten and wash away naturally with rain, so the full result is not always visible on the day itself.
