Billingham sits on the north bank of the Tees about twenty-six miles from our Washington base, within the 45 miles we cover, and we visit as part of planned Teesside trips. The town's housing is mostly twentieth century: post-war semis and terraces on the older estates, with newer developments spreading south towards Wolviston.
Gutters on these estates fill with roof moss granules, silt and windblown seed, and the short runs over integral garages and porches are the ones most often forgotten because they cannot be seen into from the ground. We empty every run with a vacuum on sectional poles, drawing the debris down into the machine rather than tipping it over the edge.
Estate guttering and camera checks
Much of Billingham was built to similar patterns, which helps: eaves heights are consistent and the poles reach them all from the drive or garden. On the older estates around the town centre and north towards the A689, mature trees mean heavier leaf fall, and gutters on those streets can fill within a single autumn.
After the clear, the pole camera shows you inside the run, before and after, so you can see it is empty rather than taking our word for it. We do not carry out gutter repairs, but the footage shows the condition of joints and brackets, which is useful evidence if a fitter is ever needed.
Billingham's estates, street by street
The older streets around the Green and the town centre are a mix of interwar and post-war semis with established gardens, where mature trees shed into gutters from both sides of the fence. The 1960s and 70s estates spreading north have longer runs over linked garages and porches, and those lower sections tend to be where a blockage first shows as an overflow at the corner of the garage.
Newer developments towards Wolviston and the southern edge have lighter plastic guttering on detached and semi-detached houses. These are quicker clears, but the short runs over integral garages still fill with moss granules washed off the roof, so they are worth including when you book.
What a clear involves on the day
We work round the house methodically, starting at the downpipe outlets where blockages cause the most trouble and finishing with the long straight runs. Everything removed goes into the vacuum drum and leaves with us, so there is no pile of gutter debris left on the drive or in the borders.
Most Billingham semis and detached houses are completed in a single visit, and the camera check at the end takes only a few minutes more.
