Will clearing stop my gutter overflowing?

If the overflow is caused by a blockage, clearing the run lets water reach the downpipe. The camera shows if anything else is wrong.

Before you pay for a gutter repair

When a gutter overflows or drips, most people assume it is broken and start looking for someone to repair it. Very often the real cause is simpler: the run is blocked with leaves, moss and silt, and the water has nowhere to go but over the edge.

To be clear from the start, we do not carry out gutter repairs. What we do is clear the guttering with high reach, ground level vacuum equipment and film it with a pole mounted camera, giving you before and after photographs or video of the inside of the gutter.

That footage helps identify any potential repairs. If the gutter works properly once it is clear, you have saved yourself a repair bill. If the camera shows a problem, such as a sagging section or a split joint, you can show the footage to a repairer and get the right job quoted.

A gutter that is full of debris behaves exactly like a damaged one. Water spills over the front edge, drips from joints that are sitting under a pool of sludge and runs down the wall. From the ground it is almost impossible to tell the difference.

Clearing the gutter first answers the question. Once the run is empty, water can reach the downpipe, and many overflows stop straight away.

Where something genuinely is wrong, the camera footage gives you evidence rather than guesswork, which makes it easier to get an accurate repair quote from a specialist.
