South Shields is under eight miles north-east of our Washington base, so the seafront and the streets behind it are a short drive for us.
Of all the coastal towns we serve, South Shields is one of the nearest. The NE33 and NE34 postcodes are a quick run from Warwick Drive, which makes it easier to fit you in around the weather and to come back if something needs another look.
The town mixes Georgian and Victorian houses, long terraced streets and newer homes further from the shore. Being close to the sea affects all of them, and that shapes how we clean.
Onshore wind carries fine spray that dries on windows as a dull, slightly greasy haze. It builds up faster than ordinary dust, which is why glass near the coast can look grubby again soon after a clean with tap water.

Purified water dissolves salt film well. We feed filtered, de-ionised water up a pole to a soft brush, scrub the glass, frames and sills, and rinse; because the water carries no minerals of its own it dries clear without spotting.

Gutters near the sea fill with a heavy mix of windblown sand, grit and moss. On a terrace the gutter often runs the length of the row, so a blockage outside one house can overflow further along. Salt and grime also streak the fascias and soffits behind the gutter. These are soft washed at low pressure as part of our fascia and soffit cleaning.
Rendered walls facing the sea pick up salt marks and green growth, and paving near the shore collects sand in the joints. Render is cleaned by soft washing and steam. Driveways and patios are cleaned, re-sanded, treated and re-sealed if required, which helps joints hold firm against windblown grit.

There is no single right answer. Houses facing the sea, or on high ground catching the wind, gather salt film fastest, while streets further inland behave more like the rest of Tyneside. Some customers book a regular clean, others only before a family event or a house sale.

Harton and the streets around it are more varied, with semis, bungalows and newer homes. Whatever the age of the house, upstairs glass and the windows over porches and bays are cleaned from the ground.
