Why box gutters block more easily and more silently
A box gutter sits in a recessed channel, often between a conservatory roof and the main house wall above it, rather than running along an exposed edge like standard guttering. This position collects debris just as readily but is far less visible from the ground, meaning a building blockage often goes completely unnoticed until it's already causing a problem, unlike a standard gutter where overflow is obvious from below.
Box gutters also tend to have a shallower fall and narrower channel than standard guttering, which means they block with a smaller volume of debris than an open run would, and once blocked, they have very little spare capacity before water starts finding another way out.
The real damage risk
Because a blocked box gutter is positioned right against the main house wall, overflow doesn't just run harmlessly down an exposed elevation, it can track directly into the wall structure at the join between conservatory and house, an area that's already one of the more vulnerable junctions on a property for water ingress. This can lead to damp inside the conservatory itself, or inside the house at the point where the roofs meet, sometimes well before any external sign of a problem is visible.

How they're properly cleared
Box gutters are harder to access safely with a standard ladder due to their recessed position, and pole-fed vacuum systems with a camera are particularly well suited here, letting a technician see and clear the channel from ground level or a safe standing position without needing to work directly over the conservatory roof, which carries its own risks given how easily conservatory roof panels can be damaged by weight or impact.
