Pressure washer jet lifting dirt from block paving beside a worker's boots

Resin driveway cleaning across the North East

Resin bound and resin bonded drives cleaned at controlled pressure, with moss and algae treated rather than blasted out.

Cleaning resin bound driveways without loosening the aggregate

Resin drives look superb when new, but the open, porous surface that lets rainwater drain through also gives dirt, moss spores and algae somewhere to settle. Shaded edges go green, tyre tracks darken, and leaves left lying stain the stone. Because the surface is a layer of aggregate held in resin, the way it is cleaned matters more than on block paving.

Resin driveway cleaning uses controlled, lower pressure and a wide fan or rotary surface cleaner held at a steady distance, so dirt is lifted from between the stones without picking at the resin that binds them. Where green growth has taken hold, a biocide treatment is applied to kill it at the root, and it is left to work rather than being forced out with high pressure. We are trained in biocide use.

Our guide can you pressure wash a resin driveway explains the risks of doing it yourself, and resin vs block paving maintenance compares the upkeep. This page is the cleaning service for resin surfaces.

Resin bound or resin bonded?

The two look similar but behave differently. Resin bound drives have the stone mixed through the resin, giving a smooth, permeable surface. Resin bonded drives have loose gravel scattered onto a resin coat, so the top stones are only held at their base and are easier to dislodge. Bonded surfaces are cleaned even more gently, and some loose stone on a bonded drive is normal with age.

If you are not sure which you have, tell us when you ask for a quote; a close-up photo usually answers it.

Drainage is part of the job as well. A resin bound surface works because water passes through it, and silt and organic matter slowly clog those pores. Cleaning lifts that material out so rain drains through again instead of pooling on the surface.

Moss, algae and staining on resin

Moss on resin usually starts at the edges, under hedges and where cars do not run. Treating it kills the growth so it can be rinsed away and slows it returning. Oil and rubber marks are treated separately; some fade well, while deep stains in light-coloured resin may not lift completely, and we will say so before starting.

Resin that has gone dull or patchy through UV exposure is ageing rather than dirty, and cleaning will not reverse it. Cracks or loose patches are a repair for an installer, not a cleaner, and we will point them out if we see them.

For other surfaces, see driveway cleaning for block paving and concrete drives, or block paving cleaning for joint cleaning and re-sanding.

Controlled pressure

Lower pressure and the right nozzle protect the resin bond.

Moss treated

Biocide kills growth at the root instead of blasting it out.

Bound and bonded

Each resin type is cleaned to suit how it was laid.

Fully insured

We are fully insured and trained in biocide use.
