Driveways across Middlesbrough work hard. Block paving laid when the estates were built carries years of tyres, moss, oil drips and lost jointing sand, and the damp Teesside climate lets algae and black spot take hold on paving and patios through the winter. The pressure and nozzle are matched to the surface. Block paving is washed firmly enough to lift dirt and growth without scarring the blocks, then re-sanded once dry so the joints lock again. Softer or older surfaces are cleaned more gently, and softer stonework can be soft washed instead of jetted.
Block paving, re-sanding and sealing
On the estates of Acklam, Marton, Coulby Newham and Hemlington, block-paved drives are the norm. After washing, kiln-dried sand is brushed back into the joints, which keeps the blocks stable and slows weeds returning. On request the drive can then be treated and sealed, which helps the joints hold against windblown grit and makes future cleaning easier.
Weeds and moss growing through the joints are removed as part of the clean, and oil and algae staining is treated as far as the staining allows. We will be straight with you at quoting about what a particular stain is likely to do.
Patio cleaning in Middlesbrough
Back-garden patios in Linthorpe, Nunthorpe and the older suburbs often sit under mature trees and go green and slippery each winter. These are washed carefully, because older slabs and pointing mark more easily than block paving, and shaded corners that never dry out may benefit from a treatment after washing to slow the regrowth.
