A market town with steep streets
Bishop Auckland mixes an older stone-built centre with Victorian terraces on the hills around it and newer estates towards the edges. The sloping streets off the market place and up towards South Church and Woodhouse Close make ladder work awkward, which is one reason ground-level cleaning suits the town so well.
Out towards Etherley, Evenwood, Coundon and Shildon the housing shifts to former colliery terraces and post-war semis, many with long shared gutter runs and yards or back lanes behind. Our poles reach over and around all of these from the ground.
