Salt, sand and sea wind
Houses along the Promenade, the Links and the streets behind them take the full force of easterly weather. Sea spray dries on glass as a salty film that attracts more dirt, and ordinary tap-water cleaning tends to smear it rather than lift it. Purified water, with its dissolved minerals removed, dissolves the salt and dries clear without spots.
The same wind drives sand into window seals, gutter runs and paving joints. A house two or three streets back from the sea fares better, but nowhere in Whitley Bay is truly sheltered, which is why many customers here clean more often than they would inland.
