North Shields and Tynemouth sit where the Tyne meets the sea, about twelve miles from our Washington base, and the coastal weather gives gutters, glass and rooflines here a harder time than towns further inland.
Coastal towns, tall houses
North Shields rises steeply from the Fish Quay, with tall Victorian terraces and town houses stacked up the bank, many three storeys high with basements. Tynemouth, just east, has grand seafront crescents and quieter streets of older semis. Both towns take wind and salt off the North Sea for much of the year.
Height and slope are the practical issues here. Ladders on a steep street or against a three-storey frontage are nobody's favourite idea, which is why we work from the ground: gutters by vacuum pole, windows by water-fed pole.
Gutter cleaning in Tynemouth and North Shields
Coastal gutters collect windblown sand and grit on top of the usual leaves and roof moss, and the mixture settles into a heavy sludge. On the tall terraces, a blocked run shows itself as water staining down a high wall, long after the blockage formed. We vacuum the full length from the ground and film the inside before and after with a pole camera.
Our dedicated page for gutter cleaning in North Shields has more local detail, and the equipment is explained on the gutter vac clearing page. We do not carry out gutter repairs, but the camera footage shows you any joint or bracket that needs a specialist.
Window cleaning in Tynemouth
Salt haze builds on sea-facing glass within days, and tap-water cleaning tends to smear it. We wash with purified water, which dissolves the salt and dries clear without spots, with frames and sills done at the same time. The pole reaches third-floor bays and tall sash windows from the pavement.
Homes and businesses are both covered; the window cleaning page explains the method, and Whitley Bay, just up the coast, has its own page.
Working around the slopes
The steep streets between the Fish Quay and the town centre mean parking and positioning take a little planning. Tell us about any restrictions on your street when you book, such as permit bays or narrow lanes, and we will work out where the van can stand while the poles do the reaching.
For houses with yards rather than gardens, the rear work is done from the yard or back lane with the gate open, and nothing needs to come through the house.
Conservatories and the rest
Many houses here have conservatories and garden rooms added at the back, and their roof panels collect salt film, leaves and bird droppings faster than upright glass. The water-fed pole washes across them from the ground; see conservatory roof cleaning.
Fascias and soffits are soft washed, render is cleaned by soft washing and steam, and driveways and patios are pressure washed. We are fully insured and trained in biocide use and asbestos awareness.
